About
Background
David is a native of Ennis, Co. Clare. He is qualified as a graduate of Sculpture from the National College of Art and Design.
He has been working as a professional Artist for the past 20 years. He is a multidisciplinary artist who works with drawing, painting, large scale murals, video installation and small scale sculpture in bronze and plaster as well as the use of found objects.
Inspiration
David’s inspiration comes from both the muted greys of the Irish landscape and the intense colour and light of Australia.
His work can be considered postmodern- recycling and appropriating past styles in a modern day context.
His work can vary from tongue-in-cheek social commentary, to the intensely personal.
Exhibitions
David has exhibited extensively in his native county of Clare. He has also exhibited nationally and internationally, most notably in the Courthouse gallery Ennistymon, The Hunt Museum Limerick, the Shoalhaven City Gallery N.S.W Australia.
David’s work hangs proudly in homes around the world- from South Africa to Iceland, from the Czech Republic and the USA.
Arts Development
David has also been involved in almost all aspects of art locally; from setting up Artist’s collectives to the development and running of The Ennis Fringe Festival.
He has also worked extensively as an educator with local schools, with charities such as Enable Ireland, and is currently working with Clare Local Development Company.
